April 29th: Lumos! Magical Circuits

Who hasn’t longed for a wand like Harry Potter’s? At this workshop, #LadyMaker Lauren Holditch Cage taught Make-HER teams how to build glowing, magical, colorful wands. Given gumdrop LEDs, watch batteries and conductive tape, moms and daughters built working circuits on their dowels (complete with handmade switches!), and then wrapped their wands in colored electrical tape.

While phoenix feathers were in short supply, there were plenty of other ways for mothers and daughters to personalize their wands.

To illuminate the end of a wand, the caster must call out the incantation "Lumos." If correctly incanted, the end of the wand will then illuminate and cast light in the immediate vicinity of the caster. It can also be used to illuminate unseen entrances. ~The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2 Miranda Goshawk
