In our tenth Make-HER workshop, we returned to the tradition of books in the library by bringing them to life in a new way. #LadyMakers Lauren Cage and Erin Salter helped moms and daughters turn picture books into interactive art pieces with the addition of pop-ups, circuitry, lights, and textures. The girls first carefully cut pop-ups and windows into their favorite pages.
Using conductive tape, batteries, homemade switches, and LEDs, the teams began mapping out their circuits. It was wonderful to see how comfortable the girls have become with the process. Many are now integrating several LEDs and some are even building parallel circuits.
Closing circuits and making lights shine in the desired spots took persistence and creativity. Moms and daughters had every reason to be proud of their results.
