Wednesday, May 27, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
#LadyMaker: Lindsay Balfour
Push the limits of paper, a familiar material in our everyday lives, through a series of design challenges. Mother-daughter teams will be taught the basics of paper engineering, including techniques to fold, roll, attach, and secure the very material that will be used to construct the strongest and biggest structure – made entirely out of paper! Some designs will embody mechanics such as opening and closing, rotation, and more. In teams, each pair will compete and aim to create an armature and design a structure that also can be decorated. The goal is to protect a delicate object from being crushed when weights are dropped on top. Teams will learn about structural integrity and build structures strong enough even to stand on!
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13th, you may register online at https://makeher-may27.eventbrite.com.
Make-HER workshops are open to girls aged 8 – 12 and their mothers (or other adult female mentors). Our talented #LadyMaker educators have designed content specifically for this age group. Therefore the workshops are not appropriate for those under age eight, including younger siblings. You may cancel up to 48 hours in advance, but those who do not show without cancellation will be prevented from registering for subsequent Make-HER workshops. Each workshop requires a separate registration. Each registration reserves spots for both you and your daughter.
